Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (IDEVAW) and with it starts 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence - an international campaign to raise awareness and challenge violence against women and girls.

Ending violence against women and girls requires a dedicated and collective effort. We all have a role to play if you are to see an end to gender based violence across the world and no step is too small. Donating to a charity working with female victims of sexual abuse? Teaching your children the difference between healthy and toxic relationships? Supporting your friend to seek professional support when at risk of abuse? Standing by your family when they leave an abusive relationship? Sharing details of helpline services on social media? Challenging misogynistic attitudes in your communities? All of these actions make a BIG difference.

To mark these 16 days and support each other to change the world, we ask you to make a pledge to take just one step to end violence against women and girls. What action will you take? Leave a comment with your pledges below and let others know what you have committed to as well so that you can inspire others to make a pledge too!

We are stronger together, we can do this!

I pledge to carry on campaigning for law reforms that will help safeguard and support women and girls and ultimately help to end violence against women and girls. In particular, I will keep pushing for the age of marriage in the UK to be increased to 18 and for it to be an offence for someone conduct a religious marriage that is not capable of becoming a lawful marriage or ensuring that a lawful, civil marriage has already taken place.
