Malala's comments on marriage in a recent interview

In a recent Vogue interview, Malala Yousafzai made comments on marriage which sparked controversy, she said “I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?” Do you think that there is any truth to her statement, or do you believe the criticism she is receiving for this statement is justified?

    It’s a personal choice. Get married or don’t get married. Malala has a right to her own opinions. We have so many examples of relationships and families and there are people in our communities who choose to not marry and sign a paper. I think we have to accept that we all have a right to a life whatever that may be. Free choice. Free world. We may not agree but we respect each other’s choices. What I found out much later in my life that the relationships built from deep from the heart are more precious and valued than those we claim to be by birth/ force/arrangement. Love ❤️ is precious and when you have someone in your life who loves you back. Respects you. Makes you feel wonderful - that is true happiness no matter what the paper / contract you choose to sign says. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    I am wondering if the media took our comments out of context. Also i don't think she was implying everyone not get married. i feel she was just thinking out loud why people need that marriage piece of paper - don't we all do that sometimes about all sorts of things then continue with the status quo!

    I personally believe the criticism she has been getting tbh. Alot of the time women are not getting married legally, especially in the UK and therefore arent entitled to the rights that they would be entitled to otherwise, e.g. sharing of finances etc. Where is the protection for women then?
