Muslim women wear a hijab as a sign of modesty and devotion to Allah. The hijab is a head covering that covers the hair, neck, and chest. It is usually worn by Muslim women in public places.

There is no definitive answer as to what the best age for a Muslimah to wear a hijab is. Islamic scholars have differing opinions on the matter. Moreover, the decision varies from culture to culture too.

In this article, we explain the best age for a Muslimah to wear a Hijab in light of the Quran, Sunnah, and Fiqah.

1.     The Qur'anic Evidence

There are several verses in the Quran that talk about hijab. For example, Verse 24:31 states:

"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and be mindful of their chastity, and not to reveal their adornment except that which is outward; and let them draw their head coverings over their bosoms..."

This verse is often used as evidence that Muslim women must cover their hair and chests. Some scholars interpret the word "adornment" to mean the hair, while others interpret it to mean the chest.

In any case, the verse is clear that Muslim women should cover their hair and chest in public. While some believe that Hijab or head covering is only done at prayer times, it is not so. Qur’anic evidence suggests that Muslim women must cover their selves when they are out and about in public.

2.     The Sunnah Evidence

There are several hadiths that mention the obligation of hijab for Muslim women. For example, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"O Asma', when a woman reaches the age of puberty, it is not proper for her to display her beauty except that which is revealed ordinarily (i.e., face and hands)."

This hadith is often used as evidence that Muslim women must cover their hair and chests in public. The word "beauty" here refers to the hair, according to the majority of scholars.

3.     The Fiqh Evidence

The hijab is an obligation for Muslim women, according to the majority of scholars. They base this ruling on the evidence from the Quran and Sunnah.

Some scholars are of the opinion that the hijab is not obligatory for young girls who have not reached puberty. However, the majority of scholars are of the opinion that hijab is obligatory for girls who have reached puberty.

Thus, in conclusion, the best age for a Muslimah to wear a hijab is when she reaches puberty. This is in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah. However, some cultures may have different customs regarding the matter.

I think its important to remember the quote "Religion is not forced" This means, we cannot force anyone to pray, or force anyone to wear hijab. This must come from the person itself if they want to do so.
