This session is specifically for BAME women* who are at the very start of their political journey.
Are you wondering how to get more politically involved, and what that involvement means? Curious about politics, the way it works, and the different roles available in elected office? Are you sceptical about entering politics because of your visibility as a BAME woman*, but are pulled towards it anyway? Then this session is for you!
This is a brilliant starter workshop as part of our Getting Started series, for Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority Women* right at the start of their political journeys. This workshop will give you the opportunity to explore the reason why you want to get into politics and give you practical tips on how to do it. We will cover broadly what roles are available to you in elected office, help you understand how being elected can help you make a difference in your community. The session will leave you with the knowledge of lived experience in elected office as you hear from brilliant women in political office,
If this sounds up your street, then please come and join us for what promises to be a brilliant, illuminating and encouraging session.
*A Note on language: Both the Parliament Project and Muslim Women’s Network UK are aware and mindful of the limitations of certain phrases used when describing diverse women with intersecting identities. We are exploring the language we use, particularly for those whom racism, and other forms of prejudice and discrimination may be factors in their experiences, particularly when embarking on political journeys. We are committed to creating spaces for such women, in order to better understand and address the inequalities faced. And therefore, this session is particularly for minoritised women in the UK, who may experience racism, prejudice and discrimination based on their race, gender and/or religious belief.
The Parliament Project is committed to hosting inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals, including women with disabilities, to engage fully in our conversations. We provide AI live captioning for all our online workshops. If you require BSL interpretation for this session, or any further accommodations to access this event, please email email@example.com Requests must be made at least 2 working days before the scheduled event in order to enable us time to make arrangements.
This is a women only event.
We ask all workshop participants to read the Equal Power values which can be found here, and commit to respecting them within our workshop. Sign up for this workshop below and a zoom link to access the session will be sent to you automatically 48 hours before the workshop.
