I agree with some of the responses mentioning the importance of maintaining a connection with Allah swt. I am due to take my bath and start praying and fasting soon and something that has helped me is doing zikr giving charity and making dua where I'm communicating with Allah. It helps there not to be a spiritual disconnect and can serve as a reminder for me to stay motivated and continue to perform religious acts required of me such as fasting

It is difficult and it makes it worse when your prayer plans are uprooted because your monthlies arrive. Everyone's monthlies are different too - some people stop for two days others for almost a week (I am one of those unfortunate ones). For so many years I would always miss the last few days of Ramadan and it always upset me as I wouldn't be able to pray or fast on *Laylatul Qadr* and the most special days of the month. You lose heart but our cycles are not burdens or curses and we shouldn't think that they are. There are many things we can do when menstruating Maintaining routine is key - you don't have to stop eating or drinking, maybe just eat less often (instead of three-meals, have two) and during prayer times read Islamic books, do istagfar and make dua, give charity for each day you don't fast and even listen to the Qu'ran - basically do anything that doesn't require wudu.

I think the biggest thing one notices is suddenly that structure to the day is missing. So one good idea can be focusing on Allah's 99 names and picking a few and seeing how you can be inspired by them and how you can live by those names by applying them to your life.

It is hard to have a break from fasting. I definitely take the blessing of it...sleep in..eat when I need to...enjoy the extra cup of tea. And when you get back to it, YOU'LL GET THROUGH IT! :) Practically, there are so many ways to connect with Allah- namaaz and fasting are just 2. So focussing on the other stuff keeps me connected.

I would try and maintain some kind of fasting routine going even when on days off.           This would ensure your eating pattern hasn't really been disturbed too much. On the spiritual side however, it can be challenging putting those hours back into reading Quran, for example as you've been away from it for a while. I would recommend spending days off from fasting on maybe watching Ramadan lectures on YouTube etc to stay in touch with the message of Ramadan even though you cant take part for a while.
