Applying for primary schools! Advice needed

Hi all! I am a first time parent applying to send my child to school for sep 2023 admissions. She will be 4 in feb and I have been told by her nursery that school admissions are open now until Jan 2023.
I have no idea what I am doing or how to do this! Anyone else from Bham know about good schools and what do you recommend? What kind of things should I be looking for and what questions should I be asking?!
any advice would be much appreciated!
