A new series launched in collaboration with Shalina Litt (@iamshalina_) explores the issues that take place "Behind Closed Doors".
In this episode, Shalina speaks with Julie Siddiqi (@julie.siddiqi) who has a background in community grass roots work spanning 20 years and founded a local charity for Muslim women's needs, which she led for 10 years. Julie has recently started Together We Thrive, a social enterprise connecting Muslim women around the UK: https://togetherwethrive.co.uk/
In this episode Julie discusses her journey, from reverting to Islam in the mid 1990s, to then building relationships between interfaith communities. Julie is outspoken and passionate about Muslim women's rights in the UK, and around the world. Julie has recently made waves in her campaigning for equal access to Mosques for Muslim women. She has launched a survey which will assess the experiences of Muslim women visiting local Mosques. The information gathered will help Julie to better advocate for what we need from UK Mosques. It will also help with other organisations to support women who have experienced inequity, effectively raise the issues, ask for change, and get redress.
