By Shameem Shakat-Hussain

Shameem Shakat Hussain, wrote a poem about the act of supplication.  In raising your hands and prostrating this creates the space for you to be your authentic self - free from the world's shackles. It is an uplifting poem that reminds the reader that your Lord is always here to receive and listen to you.

It was never the right time,

There was always a commitment, an excuse,

And now I free myself from this world’s shackles and I seek refuge from Satan

A fool I was to not realise the power.

You took me in, despite of my flaws,

You forgave me before I uttered my confessions.

Wholeheartedly, unconditionally, I glorify You.

Surrendering myself to The Absolute.

I bow and I pray for my sins,

Hardships, trials and tribulations,

Your wisdom says no burden is too much,

And after which there’s always ease, trustingly

I ask for the straight path.

Stripped of the pretence and status.

You see it all, you hear it all without the bravado,

With the garment of purity, grounded, bare and flawed, I stand before You

I pour out wishes, to my heart’s content.

A mere creature of this event.

In preparation for the hereafter

Devoted and in servitude,

I bear witness to the One and Only

The temporary time capsule I call home.

The fear of flames and evil.

Begging for a place of calm and purity

In the garden of Paradise,

With raised hands, I pray for all the goodness

To seek Your pardon and love alike

I praise You wholeheartedly

The Merciful, The Especially Merciful

Glorifying my Lord, I call out to You in Sujood.

Uttering your names, Al Malik, Al Razzaq, Al Salaam, I stand before You.

Stand

Before

You
