Established in 1993, following an initial idea back in 1985, Anah Project provides specialist refuge accommodation and support for unaccompanied BAMER (Black, Asian, Minority, Ethnic, Refugee) women and girls who are fleeing domestic violence and abuse, forced marriage, honour-based violence and female genital mutilation.

We offer help, advice and support to individuals and professionals as soon as you contact us. We accept self-referrals as well as referrals from agencies. Some women contact us just to seek advice and support over the phone (0845 960 6011). Those looking for safe refuge accommodation are either given a space, or if no space is available, are referred to alternative suitable support services according to their needs.

We at Anah, pride ourselves on delivering a user led service, which allows women we accommodate to be empowered with opportunities and skills from the outset. Each woman is assigned a support worker, who will support her from crisis point through to recovery and moving on.

In a culturally sensitive environment and with a holistic approach, women are given emotional and structured practical support which helps to educate them on their human rights, increase their confidence, self-esteem and regain their independence.

Some of the main areas women are supported with are;

One-to-one emotional support, access to medical help, specialised counselling, legal support for personal safety, family issues or criminal justice issues, access to benefits so that they may have financial independence, in-house training sessions, access to specialised immigration support, employment, education or training opportunities to achieve their hopes and aspirations.

Women can still access support from Anah after they move on from the refuge, either for advice, through accessing in-house training opportunities or through our peer support group.
