MWNUK hosted an online talk on "Islam and Organ Donation - Muslim women share their experiences" on Wednesday 22nd November 2023. Guest speakers included Dr Iram Sattar MBE (MWNUK Co-Chair) and Mehvish Goheer who shared their stories around Organ Donation. We also heard from Sabia Rehman who is an NHS Muslim Chaplain.
MWNUK Operations Director, Shameem Hussain began by highlighting the aims of the session, "...to increase knowledge about organ donation amongst Muslim women to encourage conversations with family members; increase willingness to consider organ donation; and to register your organ donation decision."
We heard from Iram who talked about her brother Farhan, who sadly last year whilst waiting for a heart transplant. Mehvish then spoke about her young daughter, Imaan who was a recipient of a kidney donation. Sabia discussed the Fatwa issued by Mufti Mohammed Zubair Butt, "...when the Fatwa was issued, 41% of Muslims surveyed said they definitely wouldn't donate their organs compared to 14% saying they would".
Our request to you is to think about donating your organs & saving people like Farhan and Imaan. Do your research, talk about it with friends and family, and spread the word!
